OSHA Awards $10.2 Million for Workplace Safety Training

Susan Harwood grants will support 67 organizations providing hazard-recognition and prevention training nationwide.

Workers and employers at small businesses, particularly those in industries with high injury, illness and fatality rates, will be the focus of training funded through OSHA's latest grant awards.

Approximately $10.2 million will be distributed among 67 organizations through the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. Recipients will provide instructor-led education to help workers and employers recognize serious hazards and establish workplace safety and health programs.

The funding will also support the development of classroom materials covering hazard awareness, prevention methods and controls for reducing workplace risks.

The program honors Susan Harwood, who spent 17 years with OSHA. She developed workplace safety guidelines addressing benzene, formaldehyde, bloodborne pathogens and lead in construction and was the primary author of OSHA's cotton dust standard.
